League of Friends of Crediton Hospital and its Community Patients
I’m sure we all acknowledge and celebrate the hugely successful, Crediton events such as Credfest, Crediton Food Festival and The Christmas Lights Switch On. We are extremely fortunate to be living in such a vibrant community that has both the resources and many willing volunteers to make events such as these happen. They lift our spirits and instil joy and fun into all our lives.
However, there is a less well publicised community resource that has also been lifting spirits, not by hosting community events but by offering essential grants to sustain the many local groups and organisations in and around our town. We have the good folk of Crediton to thank for this financial resource as it has come via their donations and legacies. The charity, The League of Friends of Crediton Hospital and its Community Patients, (LOF), was set up to manage these funds and its Committee now meets six times a year. Until a few years ago, when it still had its beds, most of the grants would pay for an improved range of equipment within the hospital.
However, now the beds have been removed and the hospital operates as a community hub, the committee has decided to offer funds to organisations and projects that support the health and well-being of residents of Crediton and its surrounding villages. As with the majority of committees, its future depends on being able to attract younger members (particularly in their 40s and 50s) so that it might continue to deliver this vital support. So, if you feel you would like to be involved with this local charity and would like some more information, please do contact the Membership Secretary.
